HARARE (Reuters) – Zimbabwe is likely to postpone a parliamentary election that President Robert Mugabe’s party wanted by mid-year in order to allow completion of constitutional reforms, a state-owned newspaper reported on Sunday.

Mugabe’s ZANU-PF party endorsed plans to call early polls two weeks ago, despite strong opposition from rivals that the political climate was not right for a free and fair vote.

The Sunday Mail newspaper, which is tightly controlled by ZANU-PF officials, quoted unidentified sources saying it was not feasible to hold elections in the first half of 2011 and that Zimbabwe had said so to fellow members of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) weeks ago.

“Sources yesterday said it was highly unlikely that the polls will be held before June as the crafting of the new supreme law looks certain to spill into the second half of the year,” the weekly said, citing also what it called “intervening complications” in the implementation of Zimbabwe’s power-sharing agreement.

ZANU-PF officials were unavailable on Sunday to comment.

Mugabe, 86, and arch rival Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) were forced into a coalition government two years ago after a disputed 2008 election which had exacerbated a severe economic crisis.

The unity government, which also includes a small MDC faction led by Deputy Prime Minister Arthur Mutambara, is credited with stabilising an economy crushed by hyperinflation and reducing political tension.

But the coalition has been hobbled by quarrels over the pace of political reforms, policies and state positions, and Mugabe has said he sees no need to extend the coalition beyond the middle of this year.

In private, both ZANU-PF and MDC legislators have been lobbying against a 2011 election that will cut short their five-year term for the second time after the previous tenure ended prematurely in 2008 following a 2005 vote.

Critics say rushed polls without political reforms, including a new constitution guaranteeing basic rights, would only favour Mugabe and ZANU-PF, who have held power since independence from Britain in 1980.

MDC-T has blasted the recently formed Umthwakazi Liberation Front (MLF) as a fly-by-night political party formed by Zanu PF to confuse people of Matabeleland ahead of possible elections next year.

MDC-T has blasted the recently formed Umthwakazi Liberation Front (MLF) as a fly-by-night political party formed by Zanu PF to confuse people of Matabeleland ahead of possible elections next year.

The party’s provincial secretary for information and publicity, Felix Sibanda, described all other parties as tribal.

“From the outset we have to acknowledge that (the formation of parties) upholds the freedom of association. However, we are dismayed by some fly-by-night political parties in the name of MLF which purports to be a Ndebele party contrary to the Zimbabwean culture where we believe that we are one but believe in devolution of power politically and economically,” said Mafa, who is also MP for Magwegwe constituency.

“I want to congratulate the people of Matabeleland for snubbing the party launch yesterday (on Tuesday) by people who are trying to abuse people from the region and Midlands using ethnic and tribal connotations, which are dangerous to a young democracy like Zimbabwe.”

MLF was formed by Zimbabweans based in South Africa and Botswana and was launched at Stanley Square in Makokoba in Bulawayo on Tuesday.

However, residents snubbed the launch of the party as only a handful attended. Sibanda said people from the region should stop being used as experimental ground by “wishful people trying to form a political party”.

“They have experienced the Mavambo/Kusile project that involved Simba Makoni and Dumiso Dabengwa who diluted the election where MDC-T could have come out as an outright winner. MFL is a creation of Zanu PF to destabilise progressive forces in Zimbabwe,” said Sibanda.

“We do not see any difference between Mavambo/Kusile, MDC-M and Zapu and the MLF which were all built on tribalism. As MDC-T we want to talk about devolution of power so that it is at the grassroots.”

Sibanda also fired a broadside at Zapu Federal Party secretary-general and president Paul Siwela and Agrippa Madlela respectively as “spent forces and political prostitutes with a track record of political philandering that have never won a single election”.

He said towards election dates, more parties of this nature, especially in Matabeleland, would be formed to dilute the vote. He urged MDC-T members to register and be ready for elections anytime as they expected a clean sweep.

“The people have seen how the economy developed when the inclusive government was formed,” said Sibanda.

Contacted for comment, Zanu PF Bulawayo provincial chairman Isaac Dakamela dismissed the MDC-T assertions as “not serious”.

“I will not comment on petty issues. People are free to form any political party. We are not going to ask our members to form political parties and contest against the party. That does not make sense,” said Dakamela.

MDC-M Bulawayo provincial spokesperson Edwin Ndlovu said the MDC-T was the one which was a tribal party and Sibanda himself was benefiting from the party’s tribalism.

Siwela on the other hand said Sibanda, just like most politicians in Matabeleland, does not have a political cause.

She is also resident to probably the world’s most wonderful human beings.

Joshua Nkomo and Robert Mugabe sign the Unity Accord on 22 December 1987

We are wonderfully so resistant to norm that one could argue that a hard core Zimbabwean could even resist the force of gravity. In many parts of the world, the suffering that Zimbabweans went through in the last ten years would have caused at least a government renewal or at most a regime change. Instead, and by Zimbabwean standards, the suffering actually produced a “marriage” between sworn enemies, ZANU PF and the two MDCs. On the other hand, minerals, especially diamonds, have caused conflict, and even full scale wars, in some parts of Africa, but not in Zimbabwe, our diamonds have actually produced a “love-child” for our number one family! Isn’t this beautiful? Welcome to Zimbabwe.

Commentators and analysts have devoted acres of space in the media regarding the Chiadzwagate and the son born out of the diamond wedlock. The alleged son, an obedient one, is allegedly not at all new to controversy. Before joining government, this fellow was an employee of the Customs and Immigration Department. This was in the early to mid 1980s. He was a member of ZAPU.

It is alleged that he was arrested for taking part, or being part of a television smuggling syndicate during the time he was employed at Customs Department. It is further alleged that upon arrest, he ran and wept before then Home Affairs Minister, Mr. Enos Nkala, regarding his impending misfortune. Mr. Nkala, still nursing a diabolical hatred for Joshua Nkomo and ZAPU, and still formulating a strategy to destroy ZAPU, came up with a plan.

Mr. Nkala is alleged to have asked him to immediately denounce ZAPU and buy a ZANU PF card if he wanted to avoid arrest. It is alleged that this is the only reason why he joined ZANU PF way before the Unity Accord was signed by entering his own Obedience Accord with ZANU PF through Enos Nkala. Those in the know further allege that from then on, new and several allegations against him kept surfacing and numerous cases against him keep accumulating in some office and inside some filing cabinet somewhere at Bulawayo Central Police station.

The question that begs an answer, therefore, is why is he not being held accountable for his alleged sins? His only claim to liberty is none other than the Obedience Accord, disguised, wrapped and delivered to Zimbabweans as the Unity Accord. This agreement, signed amidst pomp and fanfare, was a political and military victory by ZANU PF whose desired result was total obedience by the people of Matabeleland and the entire leadership of ZAPU. One by one, the political leadership of ZAPU joined the gravy train with the full blessing and protection of the Obedience Accord. Unbeknown to them, they were all taking a poisoned chalice.

One Mr. Masunda of the Safari fame is clear testimony and victim of this. To provide insurance to this Obedience Accord, allegations of sodomy and male molestation are levelled against them. We will never blame those ZAPU members in ZANU PF who are falling over each other in praising and advancing the continued rule of a dying ZANU PF. Just like in the Mafia world, they are simply fulfilling an obedience duty, one whose dereliction can result in imprisonment, death or both.

If the Unity Accord was genuine, and meant to unite these erstwhile parties, the name Patriotic Front was more appropriate than the partisan ZANU PF. If the Unity Accord was genuine, Joshua Nkomo was never going to be second vice President of the united ZANU PF. If the Unity Accord was genuine the Zambezi Matabeleland water project would be at an advanced stage. If the Unity Accord was genuine, victims of the Gukurahundi genocide would have been compensated by now. For us, that accord is dead, buried and condemned to hell. It is no secret that restlessness has manifested itself among senior ZANU PF members for many years now. It is no secret that a good number of senior ZANU PF members have openly shown their disillusionment with the leadership of Robert Mugabe.

The Goromonzi conference is a case in point. The Tsholotsho declaration is another case in point. The alleged conspirators on both occasions might have done some spectacular somersaults and reinvented themselves to become Mugabe’s ardent praise-singers and bootlickers, but those with even half-an-inch of a political brain, know that either most of these pretenders are shackled by the chains of the Obedience Accord whose single hallmark is that they must sing praises for Mugabe until he dies or they die, or whichever comes first, or they are strategic animals who are waiting for the dead corpse to decompose before they leap to action.

The ever obedient son is not only a member of the first group, but probably its patron. Their initiation ceremony is to allow member to loot and steal as much as they possibly can. Songs and slogans have been released in order to encourage members to steal more. Slogans disguised as indigenous empowerment policies have also been passed into law. The import of all this is to encourage members to join the feeding trough. Meanwhile, our security forces simply take a watching interest and take note of the latest looting before they tuck away the file for anyone who would want to be disobedient in future.

For those who are hoping that the father will this time discipline the errant Gushungo Junior, your hope is as misplaced as for those that hoped for rock diesel manufactured by RotinaPetroleum plc. The obedient son is the reason ZANU PF is calling for early elections, they have the money to embark on an elections, all thanks to the obedient son. The money was obediently siphoned from the Chiadzwa fields under the nose of the obediently gullible, if not hopeless MDC ministers. With all this hullabaloo about the quality of Marange diamonds, are you not surprised that not even a single stone has found its way to world records for its size and or quality like we read about South African and Botswana gems? Me think not, diamond stones half the size of the obedient son’s head unearthed from Chiadzwa may have ended up in the hands of his adopted clansmen. That should explain the father-son relationship buttressed by the obedience syndrome.

What is sad, fellow Zimbabweans is that the above account reads like a script in a mafia movie, yet it is happening in our beloved Zimbabwe. Our liberators have reduced governance to gangsterism. In order to remain in the game, all you need to do is to surrender the plum spoils of gangster criminality to the mafia boss. Is this what Hebert Chitepo died fighting for? Is this what Josiah Tongogara fought for? Is this what Lookout Masuku died for? Is this the Zimbabwe Joshua Nkomo struggled his whole life for. They must all be turning in their graves.

In the meantime, there is a new style of bribery and blackmail being subjected to Zimbabweans, particularly our war veterans. I prefer to call these heroes freedom fighters because war veterans are a bunch of blood thirsty nobodies who create artificial “wars” against their own people in order to satisfy their selfish “war” credentials. The freedom fighters were given huge amounts of money as a payment for their participation in liberating the country. We all went green with envy as they bought their dogs and cattle all sorts of pleasantries. But today, they are as poor as the proverbial church mouse.

Picture this; a man lives his country and family to fight to liberate his country. He sacrifices his education and his only formal training is to kill and to avoid getting killed. This man, after having wasted nearly all his manhood in the bush, is blackmailed by a ransom payment of Z$50,000 as compensation. Meanwhile, ex members of the Selous Scouts and the RF had their government come up with a planned and coordinated social security program that is making these celebrated enemies of our liberation live comfortable lives. The only reason why our government did not come up with a sustained program for our liberation fighters is because they want to continuously blackmail them in their times of need for their selfish ends. This is tantamount to bribery of the highest order.

To real freedom fighters, the real enemy is a system that has failed them for thirty years. The very system they helped assume power which is being abused to amass wealth for a select few at the expense of the majority. That is why this system cannot phantom electoral defeat, lest those criminal files end up in the wrong hands. As talk for early elections reaches fever pitch, some loud cowards masquerading as war veterans are making news with some notorious grandstanding. One Jabulani Sibanda, a complete failure of unprecedented levels, who masterminded the failed Tsholotsho attempted coup as well as the Million fools march, both that resulted in him getting fired from the dead ZANU (PF), is now leading the ZANU (PF) praise singing choir. That is well and good, although a piece of advice will be in order here Jabulani, seri kweguva hakuna munamato. ZANU is dead, no matter how loud you sing, it cannot be brought back to life, period. Only a madman can attempt a mouth to mouth resuscitation operation on a dead, decomposing donkey.

In the just ended old people’s conference held in Mutare, Jabulani decided to have a go on President Dumiso Dabengwa. According to this shameless lunatic, Dabengwa, just like the late President of ZAPU, Joshua Nkomo, is claiming to represent the people of Matebeleland. How low this brainless loudmouth can get defies imagination. How dare he make such baseless allegations that Nkomo represented people from Matebeleland only? Nkomo, just like Dabengwa, are true Zimbabwean heroes who will forever remain national both in character and content, even long after they die, whether nincompoops like Sibanda like it or not.

No amount of grandstanding and lies can change the fact that Dumiso Dabengwa is a people’s hero who spent 18 years not only fighting but leading armed men and women, and actively participated in Lancaster House negotiations as a leading figure before he was later incarcerated by ZANU (PF) for four years on trumped up charges when Jabulani Sibanda was busy milking goats. The only genuine leaders of former freedom fighters are Dumiso from ZIPRA and Rex Nhongo from ZANLA. These two need not campaign to be leaders of tiny, faction riddled war veteran outfits. They were, and are still commanders of real men, not a bunch of clowns that think putting on grass hats makes them fearless revolutionaries.

Real freedom fighters do not fight innocent villagers; they do not beat up, rape innocent defenceless women and children. They do everything to protect them and not what Masvingo province has been subjected to in the last few months by some blood thirsty vampires masquerading as freedom fighters. If true freedom fighters like Cain Nkala was alive, we would ask him where and who trained Jabulani Sibanda. After all who killed Cain Nkala, if it’s not the usual rubble rousers armed with forked tongues and shoe laces using Selous Scouts tactics to kill opponents in their desperate bid for recognition by a blood thirsty organisation pretending to be a revolutionary party?

While everyone knows that Jabulani and some of his hangers on never fired a gun even in their wildest dreams, except after 1999 when they created an artificial war against Zimbabweans, it is common knowledge that true revolutionaries like Rex will not attack Dabengwa in the same manner Jabulani is doing, neither will Dabengwa attack Rex. There is mutual respect between them born out of a real war, with real war casualties, fought by real men who are really disciplined. Dabengwa is the same man who walked out of prison to work with his tormentors for the sake of peace and unity.

Today, nobodies like Jabulani Sibanda find pleasure in attacking heroes like Dabengwa? While we all know what ZANU (PF) did to humiliate Nkomo in the past, we will not seat back and let them unleash puppies on our leader the same way they did with Father Zimbabwe. Jabulani Sibanda is trying very hard to fit into Enos Nkala’s shoes and we will do everything to stop him before he causes another genocide in our beautiful country. Even President Robert Mugabe would rather sing “zviri sei sei” than attack a people’s hero in the form of the Black Russian.

ZANU (PF) in particular and the country in general is in a sorry state of decay simply because the President is surrounded by crazy sycophants pretending to be think tanks when in actual fact they are dip tanks, except for one son of Mlevu and a few odd thinkers here and there. Jabulani and his ilk need to be reminded that you can be militant and combative without being disrespectful of your commanders and leaders (assuming he was not a mere refugee in Zambia or Angola) by spewing raw sewage in order to please a leader whose sense of smell seems to have migrated together with his common sense.

Otherwise how else can you describe recent threats by ZANU (PF) to invade some companies simply because they have a love-hate relationship with their founders and former funders who enjoyed and celebrated when ZANU (PF) North Koreans and their local surrogates murdered 20,000 civilians in the 1980s? Today, as recently as December 2010, in a beautiful city called Mutare, hundreds of crazy old men and women were clapping and celebrating when some crazy slogans disguised as resolutions were being announced. Jesus Lord, Son of virgin Marry, this world must be coming to an end, for crazy things are passing as divine stuff by equally crazy, old and tired geriatrics.

While ZIPRA veterans are busy going around the country seeking forgiveness for sins committed by these outcasts in the name of ZIPRA, this shameless idiot continue to wine, dine and go to a lice infested bed with the same people who butchered over 20,000 of his kith and kin all for a few pieces of silver.

Margaret Dongo was very right, the fact that one has a beard, a trouser and something dangling inside it does not mean one is a man. The sooner obedient sons and the Ms. Sibanda’s of this world are stopped the better for our beloved country. If madmen (or is it women) like Sibanda have nothing better to do with their time, they must just shut up and do what is meant by two words that describe dirty sex ending with what describes movement.

HARARE, December 19, 2010- PRESIDENT Mugabe has vowed never to swear in MDC-T treasurer Roy Bennet as deputy minister of agriculture, Mechanisation and Infrastructure Development because his party is working with counter revolutionaries to reverse the gains of the liberation struggle.

According to the Sunday Mail, Mugabe made the remarks at his ZANU (PF) party conference in Mutare yesterday.Mugabe lambasted the MDC-T for its comments that no elections would be held until Bennet was sworn in as deputy minister.

“Look at how they worked with the settlers who destroyed us, turning us into semi-slaves,” he said. The MDC-T are shedding tears over Bennett because he has not been sworn in. I cannot swear him in, some things are just not possible.”
He said Zanu-PF had sound policies, which cannot be duplicated by the MDC-T, adding that although the party was aligning with neo-colonialists to destabilise the country, Zimbabweans would work with friendly nations. He said Government would also block investment from countries that imposed illegal economic sanctions on Zimbabwe. It will not be like what it was yesterday, he said.

“Zimbabweans can help build our country. We will only align with those that want to give us their hand,” he said. “Those who give us their backs and bring sanctions we will kick out.”

“Countries without co-operation with us and which have not recognised the hospitality we have extended to them must not sit on their laurels thinking that yesterday will be tomorrow,” he said.

Mugabe said the same principle would also apply to financial institutions closely linked to hostile countries.
He singled out mining concerns Rio Tinto and Anglo-American among the companies that will cease operations if they fail to push their principals to remove sanctions.
Bennet, who has been forced back into exile due to pending order for his arrest, was elected senator by black Zimbabweans in his Chimanimani constituency.A successful commercial farmer, he became so popular with the local black people that they called him ‘ Pachedu ’ A Shona word which means one of us.In May this year he was acquitted of charges of conspiring to overthrow President Mugabe.

Harare - President Robert Mugabe Saturday declared his party would regain its ruling status in elections to be held next year.

Harare – President Robert Mugabe Saturday declared his party would regain its ruling status in elections to be held next year.

He vowed that his Zanu-PF party would crush other political players like a fast-moving train. ”We are back on the revolutionary rails,” said the 86-year-old leader as he closed the Zanu PF three-day conference in the eastern border city of Mutare, about 300km east of the capital Harare. ”We leave here redeemed and rejuvenated from the doldrums of 2008. We are a fired-up train. What happened in 2008 will never come again. Never. Never, again,” said the former guerrilla leader.

In 2008, his party lost its majority in parliament for the first time since Zimbabwe attained its independence from Great Britain in 1980. Mugabe also lost the first round of presidential elections to then opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai that same year. In the run-off, Tsvangirai pulled out, citing violence targeting his supporters. Mugabe declared himself winner but regional leaders forced him to form a coalition government with Tsvangirai who is now Zimbabwe’s prime minister.

On Friday, Tsvangirai’s Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) party warned that Zimbabwe was not ready for elections next year, citing intimidation by army and militia, and the absence of a new constitution. Mugabe did not propose a date for the elections.

Mugabe reiterated that his government would nationalize Western-owned banks and financial institutions if their countries do not lift smart sanctions imposed on him and his cronies in 2002. ”Don’t expect your banks here to remain the same as they have been. We are not fools,” he said. Mugabe threatened that people who turned their backs on Zimbabwe would be kicked out because they “produce bad smell.” ”I am sorry I have said something taboo but these people (whites) naturally produce bad odour,” he said. “Those who want to align with us come.”

Mugabe said Zimbabwe would refuse investment from the West if they do not lift the sanctions. ”Why should we suffer when we are sitting on wealth? We have diamonds, platinum, gold, methane gas. We have abundance of wealth. We are able to run Zimbabwe without help of America or Britain,” Mugabe told about 4,500 supporters.

On Friday, Mugabe threatened to seize Zimbabwe-based firms from Western countries that have imposed sanctions on his government. Under controversial economic empowerment and indigenization laws, foreign-owned businesses have to be 51-per-cent owned by black Zimbabweans. ”Why should Anglo American (mining company) continue to take our gold out? Why should Rio Tinto continue to take our gold out? If the sanctions remain and continue, those processes will have to stop,” Mugabe said Saturday. Western powers enforced restrictions on Mugabe and his party elite in 2002 following reports of human rights violations by Harare.

HARARE – President Robert Mugabe (pictured) has set May 23 as the date for elections, highly placed sources within the president’s office have revealed.
The sources told The Zimbabwean that the election date was decided back in October, hence Zanu (PF)’s election mood. “Top state security agents were privy to the poll dates and the terror machinery was expected to have shifted into full swing country wide by now. Everybody involved was wondering why ‘the aggressive and armed liberation style’ Zanu (PF) campaign network remained inactive six months before the election date. Hit squads were redeployed back into position. In fact, the election schedule was decided simultaneously with the ploy to fabricate serious abuse of office charges against MDC-T Minister of Finance, Tendai Biti, in early October,” said the source.
As in 2008, District Central Intelligence Officers are expected to compile lists of MDC officials targeted for silencing. These would be forwarded to higher offices for further action. In Murewa district, the female CIO district officer in charge, Mudzinganyama, has allegedly compiled a list of activists headed by MDC-T losing parliamentary candidate for Murewa North, Golden Mutize.
Mutize is believed to pose serious election challenges to Zanu (PF) David Parirenyatwa in the Murewa North Parliamentary race. The two rivals polled over 7 000 votes each at the last election, and were separated by less than 100 ballots, following alleged voter intimidation and bribing by Parirenyatwa.
“Though MDC-T and Morgan Tsvangirai would win in a free and fair election, it was high time they embarked on serious poll campaigns to educate and motivate the electorate. Even top security agents who now virtually run the country realize that the outcome at the polls would be in Tsvangirai and his party’s favour. Despite the odds against him, Mugabe was unlikely going to differ the election date even should facilitators of GPA think otherwise,” said the sources.
Meanwhile, several apostolic churches across the country were reportedly praying for peace to prevail during next elections as prophets ‘prophesied’ Mugabe would lose the polls resoundingly, but planned not to leave office without a ‘good’ and bloody fight.

The controversial WikiLeaks website which is giving Foreign ministers headaches world-over has provided Zimbabwe "incontrovertible evidence" that USA was collaborating with the MDC to overthrow Robert Mugabe.

The controversial WikiLeaks website which is giving Foreign ministers headaches world-over has provided Zimbabwe “incontrovertible evidence” that USA was collaborating with the MDC to overthrow Robert Mugabe.

Despite the United States of American and Zimbabwe having for long had an uneasy relationship, political commentators argue that the situation could get worse following Mugabe’s mention in the leaked documents. According to them, Zanu PF has been gifted with a propaganda coup.

Zimbabwe’s Foreign Affairs minister Simbarashe Mumbengegwi says diplomats engaged in the “illegal regime change” plot will have to face the full wrath of the law.

Mumbengegwi, who also doubles up as External Affairs official in Zanu PF says diplomats engaged in the “illegal regime change” plot will have to face the full wrath of the law.

“Now the good thing about all this is that we now have incontrovertible evidence that the Western countries and the United States in particular has been collaborating with MDC T in this country to destabilise this country which is in total violation of the Vienna Convention,” Mumbengegwi said.

Mumbengegwi added,”In the Dell report, he admits that US is funding political parties in this country. And everybody knows that this cannot be Zanu PF. And in our laws this is absolutely illegal.”

He warned that no diplomatic representative was allowed under international law to violate any laws of the country to which they are accredited.

“And now we have this revelation to the effect that the former American ambassador was interfering in the internal affairs of Zimbabwe. And this is a matter we take extremely seriously,” Mumbengegwi said.

“We intend to enforce the provisions of international law to the letter. Zimbabwe will not accept, Zimbabwe will not tolerate any interference in the internal politics of Zimbabwe by any of the diplomatic representatives of any country no matter how powerful that country maybe.

“They are bound by international law, they must obey international law,” a tough-talking Mumbengegwi said.

However, despite Mumbengegwi’s claims, the United States is by far the largest donor to humanitarian agencies in Zimbabwe.

Meanwhile, the US embassy, based in the capital, Harare, is getting on with the robust and confidential business of diplomacy without getting sidetracked by the volatile WikiLeaks episode, which raises questions about the need to maintain proper protection for the large body of classified documents.

US deputy Ambassador David Abell says views contained in the leaks neither reflect his government’s position nor policies.

“The American people have high opinion of the people of Zimbabwe. We want to continue to have a friendly relationship with this country”.

“ We diplomats write reports from time to time and these reports are then handed over to policymakers in our country. We do not make polices as diplomats” – Afrik-News. Posted by Prince Muguza

HARARE – MDC members are resigning from the party as members of the dreaded Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) embark on a countrywide campaign of intimidation and threats. (Pictured: Elias Mudzuri)
Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) Organising Secretary Elias Mudzuri confirmed that the party had received reports of forced resignations.
“We are aware that Zanu (PF) has deployed the army and the intelligence…to force people to resign. We are now aware that violence and intimidation are rising,” said Mudziri.
The CIO, an extension of Zanu (PF) intelligence, is reported to have threatened members of the MDC in Marondera, Chiredzi and Lupane and has already started stage-managing the resignations on ZTV, where fear-filled MDC officials are forced to denounce and hand over their MDC membership cards and party regalia.
In Mahusekwa, just outside Chitungiwiza, the former district chairman, Patson Ndati, and former parliamentary hopeful Elias Kunaka have resigned.
Zanu officials, including Foster Gwanzura, Charles Zimbudzana and Murambiwa Changango are said to be leading the renewed intimidation in the area.
One MDC member, who admitted he had just been asked to denounce his party, said the situation was dire.
“I resigned yesterday at the council offices and handed my cards to council officials who have instructed me to bring an official MDC (T) resignation letter. I will definitely resign from the MDC in order to protect myself and my family,” he said.
In Chikomba, several top MDC officials have already resigned after chilling warnings from Zanu (PF).
“People are being forced to attend meetings called by Zanu (PF) and, at one meeting, they were told to buy Zanu cards from their headman. Many of our supporters have bought the cards because they have seen their leaders do the same. Chief Samuriwo is actually selling Zanu cards,” said the MDC (T) Chairman for Marondera West, Eddington Magwenzi.
